ABOUT ME

Observations and reactions to life experiences, human relationships, and my interaction with natural phenomena fuel the images in my work. Using recognizable images, literary allusions, and text in symbolic, metaphorical or abstract ways, I communicate and make “visual” my ideas into works on paper. Working in various media, I create lithography, intaglio, serigraphy and archival digital prints and mixed media drawings/paintings.

The multiplicity and mutability within specific printmaking processes and works on paper techniques intrigue me. It is a dialogue between concept and markmaking. Drawing and writing about my ideas is the beginning step and the constant in my process; the way I draw the image to activate the matrix involves unlimited choices and energizes the hand-pulled printed image or mixed media work. Writing about initial thoughts provides a springboard for deeper investigation and amplification of the inspiration for an image. I combine layering and juxtaposition of hand-made source material with my digital and photographic processes. I enjoy pairing traditional lithography, intaglio, and serigraphy techniques with ever-changing digital technologies.

The interplay of evolving digital/photographic technologies and techniques with age-old processes allows me to incorporate printing on and with alternative materials and tools. Often, I incorporate multiple printmaking media in larger mixed media drawings.

I exhibit nationally and internationally in solo, juried, and invitational exhibitions and have work in permanent and private collections in the United States, Australia, and Malaysia. My lifetime body of work is currently being curated into the Artist Printmaker Research Collection at The Museum of Art at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas.

Bois d’ Arc Press, my studio, print shop, and gallery space is in Amarillo, TX. I taught 2-dimensional design, drawing I & drawing II as adjunct faculty at West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX. Education includes: an MFA, studio art; a BA in English and art education; and a MA in English from West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX; and an AAS in graphic design from Amarillo College. Over 1200 square feet, Bois d' Arc Press, founded 2007, houses my gallery space, working studio and fine art print shop. A 26X48 Takach lithography press, Amergraph flip-top platemaker, KDL wash out sink, custom-made inking/paper tables, drying racks, Porta-Trace light table and flat files create a state of the art print shop. My working studio includes 2 drawing/painting areas, a computer station, and my reception/office space. Stop in the front gallery and see my work and work by other contemporary artists.
